What is Responsible Investing?

Responsible Investing is about more than financial returns—it’s about making investments that consider their impact on society and the environment. By incorporating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors into investment decisions, RI ensures that your money contributes to a sustainable, equitable future.

What are ESG factors?

Environmental

How a company performs as a steward of the planet

Model of hierarchy of employees

Social

How a company manages relationships with employees, suppliers, customers and the communities where it operates

Governance

How an organization is managed and controlled

Do responsible investments give less of a financial return?

Myth Buster:
Responsible investments can lead to better long-term financial performance. Studies, such as one by the Morgan Stanley Institute for Sustainable Investing, show that ESG-focused funds perform as well as, or better than, traditional funds and demonstrate lower downside risk. These investments often provide stability during volatile periods, making them both financially sound and impactful.

Our Path Forward

In May 2021, Libro made a bold move to exclusively offer responsible investment options for all new mutual fund accounts through Aviso Wealth*. The decision reflects our dedication to driving positive change as a purpose-driven business, a member of the Responsible Investment Association of Canada and as a certified B Corp®.

We are using business as a force for good – empowering you to invest with purpose.

Why should I choose to invest responsibly?

Events in our natural world and in our economy show us environmental and social issues impact directly on the performance of companies.

Adopting a responsible investment approach is about ensuring you are minimizing your exposure to the financial risks increasingly associated with climate change, changing energy needs, poor ethical and governance practices, water shortages or exploitative labour practices.
Choosing responsible investing allows you to align your financial goals with your values, ensuring your investments contribute to a sustainable and equitable future. It’s an opportunity to make a positive impact on the world while achieving competitive returns.
