Empowering young people with the skills to help them succeed
JA is a charitable organization that mentors elementary and secondary school youth, through free financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurial programs. JA financial literacy programs are interactive and designed to engage students at an appropriate age and education level with hands-on experiential learning and use a blended model to engage students with digital tools, resources, relevant content and mentorship from JA trained volunteers.
JA programming helps students develop real-world skills that they can apply to their lives immediately – such as budgeting, investing, and aligning their financial choices with their goals.
Libro has been a supporter of JA for nearly a decade.
Libro cares deeply about supporting people to achieve financial well-being. People with proper financial knowledge have the potential to make better financial decisions. Building this foundation early in life can have significant impacts in the financial well-being of a person.
That’s why we are proud of our longstanding partnership with Junior Achievement which includes not only financial support but engagement from passionate staff who volunteer their time to deliver the JA programs.
We renewed our partnership in 2023 and have committed $150,000 over three years.
More than 4,000 students from grade 4 through high school will benefit and develop financial literacy skills, thanks to this partnership.
Listen to our podcast episode Having the (money) talk” with your kids. This can be especially tough if you’re not an expert yourself! Lynzee Barnett invited Karen Gallant, President and CEO of Junior Achievement South Western Ontario, and Scott Macleod, Regional Manager at Libro Credit Union to share the importance of building financial literacy – developing the right mindset and attitude towards money and why it’s important to start young.

Testimonial“With support like this gift from Libro, JA takes a proactive approach to help students avoid the cycle of poverty. Every student that we reach early with relevant hands-on learning brings that knowledge forward into their future financial decision-making and ultimately into their community.”
