SOUTHWESTERN ONTARIO – Libro Credit Union is providing $140,000 in financial contributions over the next three years to four Habitat chapters across southwestern Ontario.

Libro Credit Union and Habitat for Humanity have a shared vision of providing access to adequate, safe, and affordable housing for all. With the challenges and barriers Ontarians are facing with affordable housing, Habitat for Humanity Affiliates continue to embark on build projects across our service area.

Libro knows that investing in communities isn’t just about dollars and cents. That’s why our commitment to strengthening communities is built into the business we do every day.

In addition to providing $140,000 in financial contributions going towards affordable housing projects and financial literacy efforts, Libro has also worked with two chapters to provide direct financing and mortgage agreements with the individual homeowner; freeing capacity within Habitat to stretch their dollars further.

  • Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario and Brant-Norfolk Chapter: $60,000 will be invested in the Heartland on the Thames Build Project in the community of London, and the Upstart: Canada’s first Habitat for Humanity Passive House Project in the County of Brant, Brantford, Ontario.

“Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario values the relationship we have with Libro. Our future homeowners benefit from the expertise Libro advisors deliver to education sessions and the behind-the-scenes work done to develop and continuously improve our financial literacy program. The impact that Libro brings to Habitat is substantial, and as a result, we know we will have more successful homeowners in the future.” – Al MacKinnon, Chair of the Board of Directors, Habitat for Humanity Heartland Ontario

  • Habitat for Humanity Windsor-Essex: $45,000 will be invested in local projects including the 3 new homes in the Ford City Build.

“At Habitat for Humanity Windsor-Essex our mission is to mobilize volunteers and community partners in building affordable housing and promoting home ownership as a means to breaking the cycle of poverty. Libro has been and continues to be one of our strongest long-term partners in building homes in our Community.” Fiona Coughlin, CEO/Executive Director, Habitat for Humanity Windsor-Essex

“Libro Credit Union has been a long-time partner of Habitat Waterloo Region. Because of Libro’s commitment to affordable housing and homeownership, we are going to impact so many more families together than we could on our own, and we are so very grateful” – Maggie Moniz, Director of Community Outreach, Habitat for Humanity Waterloo Region

  • Habitat for Humanity Sarnia Lambton: $15,000 will be invested in a housing project in Forest, Ontario.

“Every new partnership we form has the opportunity to impact others around us, and for us that focus is on families.  Working with Libro is another opportunity to change the lives of someone in need.” – David Waters, CEO Habitat Sarnia/Lambton

Housing and financial resilience are cornerstone pillars at Libro, we have a purpose beyond profit, and we firmly believe that success comes from partnerships and collaboration” – said Jordan Moat, Regional Manager, London Elgin Oxford. “We are proud of our growing partnership with Habitat for Humanity to find innovative solutions to housing challenges facing the region”
